Letting the beer clear!

Post by davidmpye » Tue Jan 19, 2010 11:36 pm

Hi guys,

I have just got into brewing several kits from the Woodeforde's range (Wherry and Admiral's Reserve).

I've kegged the Wherry and now have the problem of finding somewhere for it to sit for 4 weeks or so. Unfortunately, I live in a flat, so I don't really have anywhere cool for it to lie. I could take it over to a friend's house and let it lie there, but it's a 10 minute car journey away.

I wanted to know whether it's best to leave it here where it can remain still (around 20'C) or take it somewhere else where it will be cooler, but will have a 10min car journey each way to get it there, and back once it has rested.

What do people think?

Thanks,

David

A gentle car journey shouldn't be too much of a problem. You can give it time to settle when you bring it home (if that's where you intend to drink it) The only problem I see, is when you bring it home it will go back up to room temp.......I don't like warm beer. You could try standing it in a bowl of water with towels or a t shirt over it. With the bottom of the fabric in the water the evaporation will aid cooling. Add ice to the water.

if it were me i,d turn heating off in the bathroom and keep it in there, got to get prioritys in order.to be honest i prefere my real ale at a low end run temp, i find it gets a bit harsh when its to cool.
