Blackrock Cider Primary fermentation

Post by potatoes » Thu Feb 18, 2010 6:23 pm

Hi All,

I broke my hydrometer the other day  and currently have a Blackrock cider in primary FV. The cider seems to be taking ages to finish primary fermentation. Its been bubbling away for 19 days  This seems like a long time compared to my stock standard coopers stout which is finished with 10 days. Has anyway made this kit before? how long does cider take to finish fermentation? Any suggestions welcomed.

Spuds.

You're right this seems like a long time, but it depends what temperature you've brewed at. The only way to be sure is to take a hydro reading. Invest in a new one. It's well worth it.

Have ordered a second Hyrdometer now. Will see what the reading is when it arrive. www.brewxpress.co.uk seem to have pretty good charges for P & P is anyone needs HB gear.

Hi Tony,

Mine kicked off pretty quickly. Its a cider yeast though, so dont be expecting any yeast floating on top. It kind of ferments without head, if you get what I mean.

Day 13 and still bubbling! It might have to stay in another week as I won't get time to bottle it before I go away on Friday at this rate.
