How long is too long?

Post by james_m_r » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:50 pm

My Black Moor Stout has been in primary 11 days today. I had planned to transfer to keg yesterday but could not get around to it. I am really struggling to find the time with work/baby at the mo to get this done.
Will leaving it in until Fri/Sat (13/14 days total) be ok or is this too long? I have read about adding a spoon full of slurry from bottom of fermenter to the keg if transfering after 10 days, would this be advisable? I have also read when your beer sits on the slurry in the fermenter for too long it can cause off flavours. How long would this take?
Your help would be much appreciated.

Pretty sure i've read that you're okay for up to 14 days!

When you say a little, is 1 tea spoon enough?
Out of curiosity how long could you get away with leaving in fermentor before off tastes begin to develop?

This kit has turned out absolutely fantastic. Any stout lovers out there who have not tried this need to do so as a matter of urgency.

Black Moor Stout was one of my first kits and although doing AG now, I would still do it again, it's great

btw I have left a brew for nearly four weeks in primary when I went away on hoilday after Daabs advice (under airlock) and it was fine. I also let some yeast into the bottling bucket as it had dropped pretty damn bright by this point.
