Admirals Reserve

Post by Hoppkins » Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:16 am

Was a bit concerned as this is still (slowly) bubbling after 2 weeks. I checked the gravity last night and it was a princely 1.012 approx and smells great and tasted ok :)

Guess this woodfordes kit has gone to plan!

Hurrah for beer!

I'm just about to do same kit Hoppkins. Are you doing a photoblog on this one? I really liked the one you had a link to on here. I'm only on my second brew now and I found it really interesting and helpful before I did my first. So thanks for that. :D

The admirals reserve kit is just another woodfordes kit with a hop extract sachet Daab has theorised so im sure Nelsons and Admirals are essentially the same.

I try and put photos here when i can though sadly since me and the lady are decorating at the moment the house is a sty. All my photoblog things are here

You will probably need to be a member of our message board to see my section though. It's a message board me and a few friends post on so we can post stuff to each other at work easily.

I didn't take many pics of my admirals reserve really since i had already covered my fixby gold and wherry kit as a blog (and this kit is essentially the same)

I really only do a full photo thing when i do something new so i can show the guys on the forum above how to do it if they want too.

Heres a pic of it fermenting though (exciting  )Its the one on the right. The other was Coopers Australian Ale.

No thats a 1kw mini radiator ;)

My admirals reserve is down to 1.010 gravity but is still bubbling very very slowly.

I want to get this kegged, the keg its going in has a standard co2 valve which will allow excess gas to escape. Do you think this is ok to keg now?

I cant see it going below this.

I've got Nelson's in my secondary at the moment - and surprise surprise I suffered a stuck ferment. Re pitched and it's now down at 1012 (from SG of 1044) after 8 days. I like to get 1010 before I go to the corny so will leave it at least till next weekend though i doubt it will go down much more now.

It's been a very strange ferment, not the explosive fast ferment I normally get, very pedestrian but it is still going. Even in the secondary the beer is well carbonated, if it were a couple of weeks older it would be very drinkable

If you can still see signs of fermentation then the gravity is still likely to drop by a point or so.
Although it won't hurt as such to keg it now, it will take longer to clear and give you more sediment in the keg.
This is only really an issue if you are going to store the beer for an extended period of time.
But that's not too likely is it :=P
