Finings

Post by james_m_r » Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:03 pm

I have a brew that was untouched in the keg for 5 weeks until yesterday, and after having 6 pints or so it is looking quite cloudy although it does taste good.
Can finings be added this late in the day? and as there are no hb shops near me the only finings I could get would be Beer Brite. I have not read great things about these, so would it be best to just forget about it and drink the stuff?

If you've got this far and havn't dropped to the floor clutching your throat, then I think you may already know the answer. ;) There are still things you can do at this late stage although there are any number of reasons for hazes in beer. Cloudiness as such is typically unsettled yeast however which can be a little hard on the digestion.

You say the beer is kegged, is the cask leaking in any way so that it's not achieving much pressure?

Now that you mention it Reg, I would say that it was more hazy than cloudy.
There are certainly no leaks of any kind on the keg and it is keeping the pressure very well.

In which case DaaB has given your answer. ;)

In that case, as ever, I will follow his advice.
Cheers both
