made up my almondbury old yesterday. followed daabs instructions to the tee :

I boiled the hop bag for forty minutes.
I topped up to 5 gallons, made sure the temp was around 25oc and added my rehydrated safale 04. Then i went hell for leather at it with a paddle on a cordless drill.
Only problem is, i think i aerated it too much! I had to stop because the foam was overpouring the bin!
anyway, today, when i got home from work, its fermenting well, in fact foam is escaping from under the lid! But not worried, at least its fermenting




do you think i should scrape some of the dried scummy foam off the inside of the lid?

I suppose the only way to combat this would be to get one of the larger fermentation bins to allow for foaming.

Here's my recommendation FWIW,
Step 1, Scrape

dried scummy foam

off of lid.
Step 2, Taste

dried scummy foam

Step 3, Find something that tastes nice to remove taste of

dried scummy foam

Step 4, Clean

dried scummy foam

from inside of lid in case it ends up in the finished beer

i have this problem with my fixby gold, going to sanitise my spare lid later, but how do you get the same stuff from the walls of the fermenter without disturbing the beer
