Upload your pics to flikr or a similar picture hosting website. Details in FAQTravis wrote:Tried to post pictures, tell me how?

Sorry it's more than copy & paste, you will just have to imagine it.
Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
Can you tell me what type of pressure it shows in your barrel?
Cheers!

Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
I just happen to be having 4 new tyres fitted to my van tomos' and as it will cost acouple of hundred £££££ I'm gonna ask for a couple of freebee valves and give it a go.
Thing is where to fit them, in the cap or in the barrel???

Cap perhaps more disposable if you f*** it up?

True, would be the cheaper of a possible mistakeantinomy wrote:Cap perhaps more disposable if you f*** it up?
I was just thinking that the barrel is a bit thicker material, more like a wheel rim
Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
Hi, Ditch is going to post pictures for me. As to where to fit the valve is down to cost, is the cap big enough to take the valve? If yes, the cap will be cheaper to replace, I use the cheaper barrels with the small caps so I drill the barrel. In the event of a change of mind the hole can be plugged with “Plumbers Mate†a safe drinking water putty with a nickel plated nut & bolt with large flat washers.
As for pressure, during maturation I limit my barrel to 10psi, the stronger the barrel the more pressure it wil take, see the recommended limit of your barrel from the Manufacturer.

Great idea.
Not only a quick and easy way to measure the pressure, but also any easy way to release pressure, rather than trying to unscrew the cap [which can become very tight].

Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
I think this is an excellent idea, I may have to give it a try.
It would be good for keeping an eye on the pressure in the barrels, and purging the barrel to release the last of the Oxygen and releasing pressure. Certainly easier than trying to release pressure through the pressure release valve.

That's great man, well done. Something to think about in the future for defs.
Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
So is that final pic showing 30psi? I'm still curious as to what kid if pressure to expect inside the kegs under normal conditions.
Cheers,

Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
I think that final pic is showing 3.0 psi. I wouldn't expect to go much above 5psi in a plastic Keg. If you want more pressure than that, i.e. to carbonate lager you need to be thinking about cornys.
Re: Car Tyre Valve in my pressure barrel
The pressure shown is “3â€psi the barrel will take 10psi as per instructions. During maturation the pressure increases from zero & I monitor it up to 10psi then I release some pressure. The “whole†idea of the tyre valve is so “I†know what pressure is in the barrel at any given time. (I only brew Bitter)
I have 4 plastic kegs & they run quite ok @ 10psi with no problem. Runwell-Steve If you wouldn’t run more then 5 psi how do you know what pressure is in the barrel? Do you have a gauge?
