Brupak's Brewers Choice Best Bitter

Just put one of these together.

I was pleasently suprised how simple this was. The 20 minutes wait between steeping the grains gave me plenty of time for sanitising, treating the mains water etc it was all nicley paced, great for a Sunday pm.... 8)

For those who are not familiar with the kit, it contains 1.5 kg of Spraymalt, some 'T bags' of grains and hop pellets and yeast.

All you do is add boiling water to the T bags in a pan, wait 20 mins, drain the liquor into the FV and repeat another twice. You then add either (hence the choice) 1 Kg of spraymalt, 1.5 kg of liquid malt extract or sugar.

I went for the spraymalt option as reccomended by Clive (Mr Brupak)

I pretreated the water with half a crushed campden tablet, Aerated the wort with a paint stirrer for 5 mins, added a teaspoon of yeast nutrient and used the kit yeast (rehydrated)

OG was 1042.

I'll let yer know how she goes.

Cheers

I keep hearing that they are great and yet there are alot of HBS's that dont stock them.

to me they make sense due to the weight issue, either in my luggage or on the P+P. And then to find out that they are damn fine kits seals the deal.

Just need to get my clients to pay me what they owe me, and will order in a couple and get my boiler for my AG setup.

Nope, I read with keen intrest what Clive had to say about getting the best out of them.

On a side note have you seen your quotes on the Brupaks site? I hope you, jim, reg and andy get a nice Christmas gift basket.

Ooops, it's a DaaB quote from a "different" forum  but he credits it to JHBF but provides the other forum link

I'm just starting one of these kits, It says in the instructions:

1.After 5 to 7 days fermentation should be over,
2.Transfer to another vessel (with airlock) stir gently, and wait 2 days
3.Then it is ready for barrelling.

Is step 2 necessary? As i need to go get myself another fermentor if it is.

Cheers.

Hi djcslip

I'm drinking this now and it's great, best beer I've made by far to date. 8)

I made mine with 1kg of light spray malt, the beers turned out very pale, a perfect summer ale.

It fermented out very quickly (down to 1013 in 6 days at 21oc)

I left mine in primary for 20 days (I was waiting for it to drop bright) but it was reluctant, so I used Isinglass (from Hop and Grape). 48 hours later it was crystal clear. I then moved it into my Cornie (I force carbonate lightly)

On my list to do again very soon.

Russ,

glad to know it's worth it!!!

I went for the malt extract syrup, so hopefully everything will be cool.

This is my 3rd kit, my first 2 have been BAD - but - all problems that were of my own making, so with a bit of luck, this is the ONE!!

Here's to beer - Cheers....

Hi djcslip

Don't loose heart, I made 4-5 bad beers before I found the forum and took on board the advice, I'm now churning out some pretty tastey brews.....

Image

Photo is of my Brewers Choice Best bitter made with 1kg of light spray malt. I'm sat drinking the very same pint as I type- (early start for me but hell its the start of a bank hol! 8) )

I made mine with the spray malt option on the back of Clive (from Brupack's) advice for producing the best from the kit.

However I have no doubt the Liquid Malt version your planning will be great, let us know as I have a lonley tin of LME that need converting into beer before we get into the hot weather (closed season :( ).

Happy brewing!
