Well, I have finally got rid of the 'kit' that was in my shed.
A Stonewall Yorkshire Bitter which I recall never liking when I previously made it.
The kit was missing 1kg of DME and a packet of yeast. There was still 1.8Kg of LME (hopped) and a packet of misc hop pellets (for hopping during primary). Since I don't know what the hops where and I don't really want to use pellets, these were binned!
Next, I steeped
500g Crystal
100g Special B
166g Chocolate Malt
200g Black Malt
Once this had finnished steeping, I brought the 'wort' (a loose term at this point I think!) to the boil. I then added 32g Willamette (4%) hops and boiled for an hour.
While boiling, I poured the 1.8kg LME into my fermenter along with 1kg Glucose and 188g Dark DME (all I had left in the house).
Once the boil was finished I mixed this all together and topped up with cold water (rinsing the hops).
The final result is now outside cooling down (fairly rapidly in this nice cold weather). I expect it to be at pitching temperature in about an hour.
Now I have gone through a couple of names that I wanted to call it.
My first thought was a childish 'Love Juice' but the wife was opposed. My next choice was 'innuendo' which again was opposed (but for different reasons). I thought about 'Jigsaw Porter' since it was put together with 'Bits & Pieces' and the wife suggested 'Bits & Pieces' Now this name was the new name for the born again Yorkshire Bitter. However, after my daughter helped out with the brewing and pointed out that it was hers ('mine') and eventually kept saying 'Leona's Porter' I think that this is what the final name needs to be.
So, sometime soon, I will post the pictures of Leona's Porter
