Primimg a polypin

Post by markbatten » Sat Apr 28, 2007 9:15 pm

I am just about to rack a brew into a 20L polypin for use with a beer engine. How much priming sugar do I need to add, is there a chance of it blowing?
Should I expell all air before sealing and conditioning?

Daab's right, don't put priming sugar in the polypin. Condition it and let it clear fully in a keg first, vent the top pressure from the keg and wedge open the relief valve to allow the beer to flow, then rack it into the polypin via a syphon tube fitted to the tap. You don't want any sediment to form in the polypin, as you have to move them around to get the last of the beer out.

Beer engines work with with the supplying vessel at atmospheric pressure - if there's any top pressure the beer will force it's way through the beer engine valves and out of the spout!
