Bacterial infection strikes

Post by jaytee1 » Fri May 11, 2007 4:38 pm

I really think that this time that my brew has been targeted by the nasty microbes..
I have a nasty looking white thin film on the beer with some big bubbles in it, it does not resemble yeast growth and is def the first time ive seen activity like this. The smell is quite acrid aswell..

Before i feed it to the porcelain though, i thought that i would run it past those that know much more than me.

Does this sound bad??

The yeast was working a treat, the brew had been in for 7 days in the fermenter and it was working itself done nicely towards 1014 ish, its a Woodfordes Wherry...there was a lovely yeast head intially which disappeared leaving just small co2 activity bubbles. Checked it the other day with a hydro and have just gone back to it to transfer and its not looking healthy now...

would send a photos but some c***s broke into my house over the weekend and nicked the digital camera

Yes this week has been pretty rough and ive had to console myself with regular visits to beer cellar to get through :D

Thanks for the tips daab with the scum i lifted it off and tasted the beer and could not detect any vinegary notes at all..so its been primed and barrelled and im keeping my fingers well and truly crossed that its ok...

BTW it was a wherry and its fg was 1012!
