Using a malt enhancer.

Post by Thrasher » Sat May 12, 2007 2:44 pm

Well, the time is now upon me to start my next brew, going to use a youngs bitter kit ( thanks wilkinsons ! )

Im also going to use a Geordie beer kit enhancer in place of the sugar.

What sort of results should I expect ?

Also, when I come to barrel it, do I put sugar in then ? Or just leave it ?

thanks.. :)

As far as i was aware all beers sould be primed with sugar at the bottling/barrelling stage. This creates more co2 and give the beer a little more life...
happy brewing :D

Thank you again.

Sorry if I sound like Im being woefully obtuse.

But HOW much sugar would people normally add for secondary, considering i've used malt enhancer in the primary !?

The amount is generally so small that it's not going to affect the flavour no matter what you use. I generally use either glucose or spray malt or a mixture depending on what I have small amounts of left in packs. Generally, you need to use about 20% more glucose or 30% more spray malt than the level of sugar suggested.

I sometimes use the calculator herewhen priming, though I'd never go over about the 10g glucose/litre level.

Some like to use spray malt to produce beer complying with the Reinheitsgebot.
