certainly no shame in using them.
Coopers get a lot of good press but they
don't really seem to do what I would call
ale in their ranges... Or they are ale with
an australian slant...
Coopers old dark ale seems like a mighty fine ale to me!

Re: I'm Thinking of doing a kit!!!!!!!!!!
Finally I have got round to buying a kit. It was partly decided by what what in stock (Leyland Homebrew) It was a toss up between St Peters and Brupaks. There were quite a few new kits in stock which looked interesting but needed additional spray malt etc. To keep it as simple as possible, I went for the Fixby Gold. I will get on with it in the next day or two and will be updating in due course.

Re: I'm Thinking of doing a kit!!!!!!!!!!
Right then! I made the Fixby last night and it is busy fermenting away now. The aroma was similar to a lightly hopped AG. It's showing promise at the moment and, of course, it's dead simple to knock together................not sure it's worth four times the cost of an AG for the convenience though.
I will continue to process it as I would one of my regular brews and do the same bottle/barrel techniques, followed by the usual early taste tests and longer conditioned taste.
I better get some tramp juice going as well. my stocks are very low on everything at the moment.

Re: I'm Thinking of doing a kit!!!!!!!!!!
This has been bottled/barrelled for about 2 weeks now.I have, of course, been drinking it for about 10 days. It is now 90% clear and tastes good. It's better from the bottle than the barrel. I set 3 litre aside and heavily dry hopped it. I will try these in a couple of weeks.
I would certainly do some more kits based on the results of the Fixby, but would experiment with some cheaper ones. It is a drinkable everyday beer which anyone would drink without comment about how good or bad it is. It compares to a "basic" all grain with no particular in your face flavours.
Am I going to abandon A.G.................NO!
Is my faith in kits and respect for kit brewers intact..............YES

Re: I'm Thinking of doing a kit!!!!!!!!!!
I've done a kit recently (probably more expensive than your Brupaks) the Barons Premium Dutch Lager . . . Although I used a Dutch Liquid Yeast to ferment mine . . . quite frankly I would have been proud to have have brewed that beer all grain . . . simply stunning . . . . But at 29 quid for 40 pints, it is sooooo much more expensive than kits.
Got a Brupaks Brewers Choice German Pilsner ready to go next.
