I think my brew has stuck

Post by BaKitSpar » Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:11 am

Hi
I started my latest brew on sunday which is a geordie scottish export and I think it has now stuck :( . I am going to take a hydro reading tonight and try and rouse the yeast with my beer paddle in the hope that it starts it again. My question is that if this doesnt work is it safe to leave it in this stuck state till the weekend? because of work this will be the first opertunity I will have to get to my local brew shop. How long have people here left a brew stuck? and did it turn out ok? I suspect it was a dodgy yeast so am pretty well resigned to having to wait.

Did you get a yeast head initially?

If so a good rousing (with or without yeast-vit) and being left to do its thing until the weekend may well do wonders.

If not, a re-pitch is probably in order.

ther wasnt a yeast head to start, but there did seem to be bubbles rising so I didnt realy worry about it I just thought it was because I used bke instead of sugar. Think i will try and get someone to pop over to the shop for me now. Thanks for the quick responses.

I reckon I was on the verge of a stuck fermentation few days ago, the fermenter became pretty lifeless at at a gravity of 1020, and stopped there for a few days.

Rather than sterilising a spoon to rouse the yeast, I tried giving the FV a bit of a shimmy to bring some of the yeast off the bottom, and it seems to have done the trick - it set off again and is now down to 1012. :D

A bit OT, but I wonder who makes the Brupaks POY two can kits? From the markings on the yeast sachet, that is at least from Munton's - it's the same as supplied with the Woodeforde's kits... :?
