Secondary fermentation temperature

Post by moco » Fri Jun 22, 2007 4:00 pm

I've adapted an old small chest freezer to be a cooler, using a frost thermostat (£16) wired into an extension cable to make/break the circuit at any temperature between 0 and 20 C.

My Woodforde's kit is 11 days at 1014, I was planning to drop into the cooler for secondary.

A couple of questions:

- What is the ideal temperature for secondary, (given I can now control this)?

- Should I secondary into the king keg, and drink from the keg (having removed it from the cooler first), or into a FV for a few days to cool and clear before kegging, or cool in the primary FV before kegging?

Thanks!
