Young's Definitive Larger
Young's Definitive Larger
Just opened a bottle of my Young's Definitive Larger.
It was made with 1kg of Tate & Lyle, and was one of the first kits I made. It's now had seven weeks to mature, and this bottle has spent the last week in the fridge.
Actually, it's not that bad. As good as some of the crap cheapo canned stuff I've bought before.
Won't be bothering with making another one though...

Re: Young's Definitive Larger

I probably would have liked this a few months ago, so maybe this forum is starting to turn me into a beer snob!

I have listened to the members on this great forum......sugar is bad......do not go near.frutbunn wrote:Do you mean: taste, body, hangover, or all three?DaaB wrote:At least you have a point of reference for the effect of large quantities of sugar in a beer.
It's the last one I'm worried about at the minute, so I'll only have a few!

Yeah, I've learned that here too, but this Tate & Lyle jobie has been sitting around for awhile now from my early days. I've got about five or six bottles of it left - and they're all over primed to HELL! I think I'll try one each month or something.guest5234 wrote: I have listened to the members on this great forum......sugar is bad......do not go near.
If anything I've learnt to appreciate beer over the last few months. So I suppose you could say that getting into home brewing and this forum in particular, has turned me from a 'Carling' drinker [1] into someone who would rather buy something like Greene King IPA at twice the price and drink less. So much for saving money!

[1] Although I stopped drinking that when the awful hangovers started. Maybe they changed the recipe...
Even in alocal supermarket you can get a terrific selection of bottled ales at 3 for £4. It's surprising how many hardcore lager drinkers I know who have battled with me for years over my love of real ale are swayed if you give them a fridge cooled bottle of Adnams Explorer, Badger First Gold or Young's Waggledance. And that's a bloody good start, I say.
The odd misspelling is OK'ish but I cannot abide the use of "Break" where the work "Brake" is appropriate or the appalling tendency for British people to use the hideous "Can I get?" Americanism when they mean "Can I have".
"Can I get a portion of chips?" they ask "No Love I'll get it for you" is the appropriate answer. That said it is important for the word "Lager" to be spelt correctly in order to remind one of the Germanic wonderousness that is "Kriegsgefangenlager" Literally "War prisoner store".

The Definitive Bitter is far worse than the lager. Awful stuff.chopperswookie wrote:going back to the youngs definitive lager kit - absolute 5hite - wasted some good brewing sugar on a kit when i first started. if it was a Wilko's jobbie, they are doing Geordie kits for a fiver at the mo, thats more like it!!
Done a few of the Geordie kits and am really impressed with them so far. Found the bitter to be especially good.
