Campden Tablets and Sodium Metabisulphate
Campden Tablets and Sodium Metabisulphate
I dont have any campdens to dechlorinate water with. Will a little SMB do instead? I thought they were the same thing.
Sweet, thanks Daab
Off work sick so i set going a coopers lager kit with added fuggles and made upto about 19 litres.
Should be a nice one bottled and chilled in summer
To keep the tempreture of the brew down during ferm i stuck a cool bag over the top with 2 ice blocks inside. Ill change em periodically.

DaaB, Can I just query the figures in your post above. I've probably got this all mixed up, but just wanted to check.
Where you say "28g (1 oz) sodium met in 280ml (1/2 pt) of hot water and use 1 tsp of that", it would mean 280ml will do 56 doses of a 5ml teaspoon. So 28g divided by 56 equals 0.5g (500mg). I'm assuming your quantity is for a 23L batch.
So is the quoted text from Malting and Brewing Science not correct where it states "1 to 2 mg per litre" of sodium metabisulphite (which would be equivalent to at most 46mg in a 23L brew? See what I mean, a big difference between 46mg and 500mg.

I think your figures are basically the same as the ones I posted this morning. So do you think the "100 gms made up to 100 ml" is a typo? Surely it should be 10g per 100ml?
I've read that info you pasted above in blue on several sites, it always confuses me. It always says "A 10% solution consists of 1 oz powder made up to half pint solution, or 100 gms made up to 100 ml."
