Bottling Wherry.

Post by wasted » Mon Jul 09, 2007 3:27 pm

I’ve just bottled the Wherry I started ten days ago. I got it down to about 1014(as recommended in the instructions). In the past when doing these kits the final gravity had been higher than this but I went ahead and bottled anyway and it turned out very drinkable. This time after about 5 days in the bin all activity seemed to have stopped at 1018 so I gave it a bit of a stir, nothing seemed to happen but it must have worked

What sort of idiot would start bottling beer without having enough bottles? Me.
I had to put some into a 5 litre container with an air lock, until I can get a bit more cola down the kids and so free up some more bottles.

I still had to drink a couple of pints :D

Bottling is a big drama for me, though it was easier this time thanks to reading the forum. I put a bit of bottle length tube on the end of a tap and poured water down the end to get it going. I will fit a tap to the fermenting bin for next time, it should be dead easy then.

Looking good wasted!I would move those plastic bottles somewhere dark though if I was you,as the sunlight will affect the beer.

I’ll go and move them now. I was thinking they might like the warm to get the secondary going. I forgot about the sunlight bit, brown bottles and all that.
CHEERS!

A bottling stick makes the whole process even easier. I've started using one and it helps with filing to the correct level (with 500ml glass bottles anyway) and most importantly reduces spilt beer - and thats a very good thing in my book :D
Next Up : Something for the summer
Primary : Nothing
Secondary / Conditioning : Nothing
Drinking : Mosaic IPA

That’s the other thing I did today. I bought some Champagne yeast and Aldi’s apple juice and shook it up with a few spoons of sugar. Its bubbling away already.

Nice one! 8)

A few days ago I picked up a few cartoons of Aldi apple too! But I need to test ways of cooling before I put anything else on.

 Just checked, I've only got two pints of TC left!
