Water?

Post by cosmo » Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:08 pm

Hi All just had a sneaky taste of my first attempt
vina traditional lager using normal sugar

and it tastes very watery is this cos i made the full 23 litres worth?

can this be prevented by not making such a big quantity next time or will it get better left a bit longer (its been in the barrel for 3 weeks now)

Sugar ferments down much lower than malt extract, leaving a thinner tasting brew. Try substituting the sugar for spray malt next time, or buy a two can kit, and the resulting beer will have a fuller flavour.

All good practice though eh Cosmo, and on the positive side it'll be great drinking your own lager freezing cold in the garden AND you now know all your efforts sanitising and so on were spot on.

Go for a 3Kg or 3.6Kg kit next time and keep a load of spraymalt handy, or even some hops for a laff :)
