bit of a strange one is Old P, not sure what to class it as, not quite a porter, a strong old ale?, it's lovely from cask, the Wheeler all grain recipe has pale, crystal and black in it, and I believe DL's recipe has black treacle in it.

as for similar kits, maybe try Brupaks Scammonden Dark, or Muntons Old Conkerwood? with some extra Fuggles added? then prime your barrel or bottles with Black treacle?

Brupaks Brewers Choice Old Ale is supposed to be in a similar style. I've got one on the go at the moment but its still in primary so time will tell!

I think Daab is quoted on the Brupaks site with a comment he made here about a blind tasting between Old Ale and Old Peculiar.
Next Up : Something for the summer

In the hope of getting similar to OP I made up a Telfords porter kit with 500g DME and 500g glucose and primed the keg with a mixture of sugar and dark treacle. Its been in the keg 3 weeks and i tried a wee sample last night. Its a bit sweet still and not quite as full in body but this is only 4% so not as strong as OP. If you use 500g light spray malt and 500g dark spray malt and up the gravity with glucose, priming with the glucose and dark treacle mix it should be close ish.
Hope it helps.

Iv'e just changed the engine oil on me car, you can have that if you want. I do like OP but the last pint I had of it, the ale was warm and it was absolute crap.
