sorry... aeration?

afternoon,

after having yeast problems I was wondering if it could of been anything to do with aeration. there is alot of infomation on aerating wort, but could anyone tell me the best way to achieve this with a kit?

I use a brewing paddle fitted to a battery drill (electric seems a tad dodgy). SWIMBO thought I had gone quite mad!

I just usse the plastic slotted spoon the stir like crazy for about 10 minutes

I normally find this does the trick and it always results in a good head of foam

I always seem to splash it all over the place when using a paddle to I now tend to drop the top up water in from a height either from another FV containing treated water or a jug. I also 'recirculate' several jugs full again dropping from a height and finally give it a bit of a stir to knock down the huge head this seems to give!

I only brew kits atm so when adding water I do it from a height. This gave a 2 inch head on my wherry before I'd even pitched the yeast.

cheers guys, I prepare and mix in a bucket then let it out through the tap down a pipe into the top of a better bottle anyway, which has a tap, so I am sure i can just hold the pipe high enough and send it between then a few times and job done! after looking like loosing my first kit, i am keen not to repeat it! this is the only thing it could be bar naff kits.

If you have a lid for your FV that does not have a hole for a airlock. Click the lid down and shake the sweet bejesus out of it, job done
