Bought a Coopers Stout at Wilkos 12 days ago. Got home and got it into the FV with 750g Dme and 500g brown sugar. (usually I go 1kg dme and 250 brown sugar but I was using up bits and wasn't being fussy). I fermented it with the kit yeast for 5 days then racked it off the trub into a secondary for 3 more days (8 days in all) then bottled it using plain old tate and lyle for priming (normally I use dextrose but I said I wasn't being fussy) Stuck the bottles in cupboard and yesterday lunchtime being Snday thought I'd be really optimistic and try one after 3 days in the bottle. I couldn't believe it, it was bloody fantastic every bit as good as when it's been left 3 or 4 weeks. This kit is amazing I swear that it was only 11 days from taking that kit off Wilkos shelf to my wife and I necking 7 bottles of the stuff yesterday lunch time. Any newbie brewer looking for a dead simple and quick brew that beats Guinness into a cocked hat then give this a go. It's always been a favourite of mine but just didn't realise how young you can drink this amazing stuff. You can use any colour DME you want light or dark and brown sugar in whatever proportions suits you. Maybe mine conditioned quick because I used slightly more sugar than DME, I don't really know. Sorry I've gone on too long.

I've made it several times now but always left it much longer to condition. i'm just amazes how quick you can get stuck into this stuff. I used less DME to brown sugar this time but it doesn't seem to have affected it badly it still has bags of flavour and body. I notice Coopers basic recommendation for brewing this kit is to use their BE1 which is 600g dex and 400g malto dextrin, I imagine that would turn out drinkable if a little light bodied and low on alcohol.

Ditch has drunk his Brew straight from the FV after 4 days! He was a bit thirsty! :D =D>
Did you make it to 18, 20 or 23Lts? If you want fun, try the `3 Gall Stout` It`s Legendary! :D =D> :twisted:

Its ditches stout, made to his instructions, but he forgot to top up to 5 gallon.....and its both delicious and lethal!!
Just like trying new ideas!

We have just set off a Coopers Stout and with such rave reviews I cannot wait till it is ready for a sample.

Glad to see you`ve put a Coopers Stout on, 18, 20 or 23Lts? :D

Hi it is actually the missus who chose to buy it and set it off I am an all grain brewer these days, it is a full 23Lt batch and I will take a look at the masterclass as you can always learn something new.

Even if you are AG, this a quick way to make Stout. it`s a great read from the start, Yes, I know it`s 98 pages, but just read it bit by bit
or get your Beer out and read the lot in one sipping session! :D

Sorry to ask as I don't know but what would the difference be between dextrose and normal sugar for priming?

ps.. yes it's a good kit. I made mine with 1kg of beer enhancer and drank from the barrel after 10 days :-)

For priming it's not all that critical which you use as the quantity is relatively small. I usually use dextrose for priming but the last two batches I've done I've used plain white tate and lyle and I can't tell the difference. If you've got dex use it, if not use ordinary sugar.
