when to add campden tablet

Post by Donald » Sat Dec 27, 2014 2:59 pm

I've decided to get some Camden tablets to remove the chlorines from my brewing water and see if I notice the difference after noticing a few guides reccomending their use.
However, I only have the one fermenter so would need to add half a tab to my completed wort, ie kit, spray malt sugars all mixed in.
Will this cause a problem or still be OK to remove the chlorines?

Cheers.

I'd crush up the tablet and mix it with hot water until dissolved and add it first. Stir as you add any water.

I have a 25l water container that I got for camping from a caravan store I crush up a tab and fill from the cold tap in the bath. Seems to work well enough for me.
Fermenting: Wilkos Cider

I don't think Im reading it correctly.

But I thought, you add it as early as poss to the water, as to eliminate those chemicals from the brew from the start. So they don't take part in processes that we trying to do.
I think that's why the only thing I have read is, crushing it, ie more surface area then adding it to cold water, (slower reaction time than warm water), also when you warm your water for mashing/adding spray malt, if it has not finished doing its job, your helping speed it up as chemical reactions normaly happen quicker at a higher temp. Although theres always an optimum temp for any chemical reaction.

So add it as early as poss,
