Wilkos Hoppy thing with a twist......
Hello Boys and Girls,
Today I made a Brew which should have a nice twist at the end (I hope).
Wilkos Hoppy Copper Bitter
1 Can Kit brewed to 18Lts
1Kg Med Spraymalt
279.6Gr Demerara Sugar
251.6Gr Crystal Malt steeped 24Hrs
33Gr Polaris Hops 5 Min Boil
SG @ 22deg 1050
Kit Yeast in at 22deg
Day 7 Dry Hop with 33Gr Polaris Hops
Day 14 Hop Tea with 34Gr Polaris Hops boiled in 2Lts water, cooled, then added to FV prior to bottling!
Worth a try innit!

Looking good as always WA, what can you tell us about those Polaris hops then? Smell good?
I'm going to give my hop tea'd lager a back to back taste tonight, to see what's going on. The hop tea'd one is quite hazy compared to the crystal clear standard brew.
Cheers

Don`t you do ANY research? http://www.hopslist.com/hops/dual-purpo ... 88-polaris
Smells just like Hops! Greasiest Hops in the world! Cleaning the pot after boiling hops was a nightmare!
Smelled great when they were boiling though!

Ok, I've looked them up in one of my books and this is what my research tells me -
A German hop with a very high alpha acid (19-23%) and a stunningly high oil content. It's aroma is described as "ice candy" (wtf), eucalyptus, peppermint and citrus.
5-7% beta acids
50% myrcene
22% humulene
27% cohumulone
<0.1% farnesene
9% caryophyllene
Cheers

Re: Wilkos Hoppy thing with a twist......
2 weeks in the Warm was Sunday.
Put the bottles out in the Cold Filing Cabinet Sunday morn.
After Bottling the Passion Fruit Graff, I decided to make a White Grape and Peach Graff 20Lts. While doing the Brew I fancied a Beer!
Mmmmmmm? I wonder what the Wilkos Hoppy thing tastes like?
330 ml bottle, Lovely and Cold, opens with a good hiss, smell those Hops from 2 feet away! What a Taste! Hoppy or what! And it is 90% clear!
This is going to be a Cracker!

Hi WA
Just gone back to this post having seen your 'tasting evening' post at the weekend.
Decided to use the Wilko Hoppy Bitter as a base to try various additions - 1st variartion 'chilling' at the moment although had heating problems after bottling which won't have helped the finished article.
Still very much a novice in the brewing game so curious about adding the crystal malt - is that simply crushed CM? And when you say steeped for 24 hours is that brought to the boil first and then left for the 24 hours? Either way, how much liquid?
Nonce questions I know but you're specific on how you've hopped and the liquid quantity.
As usual, any help appreciated!

I don`t know if it`s crushed or not (probably is), Boil 2Lts of water, let that cool to room temp, then steep. Anything from 30mins to 24Hrs.
This Beer is VERY Malty, Your Taste will let you know how long to steep it for! And how much to steep! I went for 250Gr because some people on
JBK posted 250Gr. Very ELC!
Pics to follow on the weekend.
