Bottle Labels
Bottle Labels
I might be over confusing matters but what do you guys do to label your bottles to know what it is?
I used to use certain coloured tops for certain beers, i.e. Stout was red, larger was gold etc.
But there are only a certain amount of coloured tops available and I am starting to make more than one type of stout and larger so I need a system to identify them. I don't really want to label each bottle because they would be a pain in the arse to peel off when I go and reuse the bottles.
Any tips?

Re: Bottle Labels
Write on the bottle top with the Gye number or letter for the first name of the beer with a marker pen.
Re: Bottle Labels
Thanks
What is a Gye number?
Was thinking of giving each brew a number and putting that number in my brewing diary and on the bottle lid.

Re: Bottle Labels
I've started labeling 2 dozen of each brew to go into 'stock'.
Set up a simple 21 label print template using Microsoft Word, type up 1 individual label and then copy and paste into the remainder. Print off 1 sheet (I think I paid £1.50 for 4 x 21 label sheets) and whack 'em on.
Couple of days before reusing I soak any labeled bottles in a bin full of cold water overnight and they peel straight off.

Thanks all
I like the idea of a blackboard/whiteboard idea. It can go on the garage door near the brewing area.

I use a Chalk pen on the bottle - after it dries, it doesn't come off with condensation in the fridge, you need to use the rough side of a washing up sponge. very handy.

Re: Bottle Labels
Cheeky photo (the pita is having to write the same label 50 times a batch, but, worth it)
Re: Bottle Labels
It actually looks really good though.
Being a lazy man i might combine that with the blackboard so i only write out the full details once, but then just a shorter name on the bottle

I use the coloured spots available in Ryman's they come in a range of colours and if you need to use the same colour twice just simply mark it with a cross or a dot. Attach the same colour to your brewing record in place of a gyle number.

Re: Bottle Labels
I use round 25mm labels from A4labels.com, and I laser print them at home, and stick them to my bottle caps.
The labels come off glass with some hot water so I may look at getting rectangular ones for the bottles in future.

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.
