Brewferm - which to try?

Post by Manngold » Sun Aug 02, 2015 9:41 pm

Hi all,

Thinking about having a go at a brew ferm kit in between BIAB, any suggestions? Was thinking maybe the Kriek, but is it sour? Would love a lambic style, alternatively any other suggestions, happy to age as well.

Thanks chaps,

Gold

MG

I haven't brewed the Kriek, but did brew the Framboos a few years back and found that it had a great aroma, but lacked flavour and was quite dry for my tastes.

These kits are all good and tried and tested -

Triple
Diabolo
Grand Cru
Christmas
Abdij
Oud Vlaams Bruin

I've actually got a Triple waiting to go on at some point.

They all do benefit from long conditioning (at least 3-6 months), but are worth the wait

Cheers

FV:

Conditioning:
AG#41 - Vienna Lager - 5.6%
AG#42 - Heritage Double Ale - 10.5%

On Tap:
AG#44 - Harvest ESB - 5.4%
AG#45 - Amarillo Gold APA - 5.2%

Cant add any more to this really :)

ALL the Brewferm kits make good beer - some make exceptional beer. Trippel made with Golden Syrup is one particular favourite of mine, and the Xmas is sublime IF you can keep your hands off it - I have some thats now heading for 4 years old and its amazing ! :D

I think you'll need to get the proper bugs/brett etc to make a proper lambic, the kits just come with normal dried yeast. I did the oude bruin and it made a real nice beer

Thanks chaps. I have no trouble hiding beer away and leaving it. I have been conditioning a mead for almost 8 months that I forgot about.

Will read up on those mentioned.

Hi Manngold

I love it when people start threads like this ... it reminds me to go and dig a bottle of one of mine out of the back of the garage, just to check how it's coming along, of course

+1 but ... I would like to add the Ambiorix, which I made with 500g Light DME and 500g of Dark Candi Sugar this time last year, and is tasting delicious now, smooth as a smooth thing

Cheers, PhilB

Yes, I was hoping to be able to clone the Lou Pepe Kriek. It is amazing.

The Kriek is fab but is better for a few months in the bottle.
