1st brew done

Post by gazza1 » Thu Aug 06, 2015 1:54 pm

Hi all
Just done my first ever brew which is Woodfords Wheery, 2 weeks in the FV and 3 weeks in the fridge.
Tried a little when I bottled up and it tasted ok but cloudy. I have just opened my first bottle and it tastes great and well pleased with taste.
Even though it has cleared a little It is still cloudy even after 3weeks in a cool fridge, how do I get it clear and have I done something wrong.
any ideas ??

Thanx Gazza

After the FV you should have warm conditioned before cold conditioning.
Beer is my drug of choice.
I don't need anger management classes, I need people to stop pissing me off.

No beer, no fun - know beer, know FUN!

Carrots may be good for your eyes but alcohol is better as it gives you double vision!

After you bottled, did you put them straight in the fridge or did you condition for a week at room temp?

Cloudy beer might also suggest you sucked up trub from the FV.

Did you bottle straight from the FV or did you rack to a secondary bucket for bottling?

Hi, I transferred into a second barrel from the first FV with some sugar then bottled straight away
Left Bottles at room temp for a couple of days before transferring to the fridge
was this right ???

Thanx Gazza

I would have left the bottles at room temperature for two weeks and then conditioned them for at least two weeks at cooler temperature.

All sounds good to me, did you get a good carbonation on the beers?

what I do.

I have a brew fridge, so once the ferment finishes I stick the fridge down to 4 degrees to chill the beer for a day or two (helps the settling).
Then syphon to a secondary with the priming sugar.
Bottle it
Then back in the fridge at 15 degrees for a week.

Once done I pop in in the cellar to sit for a couple of weeks before sampling a chilled bottle.

Need to handle the bottle with care when moving them, doesn't take much for the sediment to refloat!
