SAFALE US-05 Theres no stopping it

Post by wanus » Wed Nov 04, 2015 8:15 pm

When I brew my kits I tend to use the yeast packs with them. Two and a half week back I set an outta date bitter kit away and used safale us-05 because the pack was missing on the kit.It started life at 1.050 and when I checked 3 days ago it was down to 1.010 but its still doin its thing through the air lock.I can only think this is because of this yeast strain.Whats other users experiences using this yeast?

I always find it a bit slow compared to english yeasts but that is quite a long time. Temperature changes can lead to airlock activity too - if the beer/headspace gets warmer it'll expand and your airlock will bubble very slowly

I'd just relax and test it again in another day or so

I normally get about 85% attenuation with us05 my last brew with it went from 1044 to 1006.

It's a pretty rigorous yeast, I always use it for my 6% and upwards IPA and find it will get down to 1012 from 1060ish within a week or two, I do mash on the high end so it will also be dependent on what the kit manufacture did as well.
