Brewferm first kit

Post by Newbrew1 » Mon Feb 22, 2016 6:43 pm

Hi everyone not been on the forum for ages but just got back into my kits. Working on house knocking wall down new kitchen etc. anyway as this was my first brew in well over a year, I decided to do a couple of brews for Christmas to get them out of the way.
Brew 1). Diabolo
Brew2). Orange bock
Brew 3) abbey
All these were brewferm kits. I have never done these before, but looked on forum and all these kits have had good reviews.
I have done these brews all today took me hours as I did not realise the amount of time it took me to clean all the fv from she and even bought a new one as one was just to bad to clean. Anyway it then took me ages to dissolve all the candy sugar, which was a pain. I did rehydrate the yeasts and also added teaspoon of yeast nutrient. 2 hours later the first fv was bubbling away then hour later the 2 then another hour the 3. Am amazed how quick these kits have set off fermenting. Hope these turn out ok.

Cheers wanus thanks for reply, is there only me and you do the brewferm kits. Not much response. Came home from work this morning all fv,s bubbling away nicley. Never done a yeast starter before, always put yeast in dry, but after seing these take off will be doing yeast starters on all of my future kits.

Hi, Newbrew1, you certainly have picked some great Brewferm kits. I'm a regular Brewer of these kits, my favourite being the Grand Cru kit, the Abdji and Triple are close. The only downside is the wait, but it's worth it. I just done a Triple using a Safbrew abbaye yeast to see if it brings any changes to the finished product, and I've a Ambiorix in the fermenter, after hearing a lot of good reviews. Fingers crossed it will be another winner.
Cheers

We are all lurking Newbrew1

I've brewed the Diabolo twice and the Abbey once, both really good brews when given time to mature.

I haven't tried the Bock kit though, so it will be good to hear your thoughts on that one.

I've currently got a Triple conditioning and early signs are good, I also fancy brewing the Grand Cru again as this was somewhere between the Triple and Diabolo.

The Christmas brew is a must, but needs doubling up with 2 kit's to 14L, and really needs 18-24 months to get to it's best.

The yeast always sets off well once it's been rehydrated!

Happy brewing.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys. Will def get that Christmas brew on monkeybrew. Think I may have dropped a bit o f a f. K up just realised that when I did my orange bock it should have been for 12 litres but I only filed my fv to 18 litres. No haven't overfilled . All these kits that I have done are 2 can kits so I have 2 cans diabolo, 2 abdij, 2 orange bock all done with kilo of candy sugar. Well if these kits are that good I want to make sure I have enough so not to regret not having enough ha ha

Seeing as the orange bock should have been for 24 litres for a 2 can brew and I only did it for 18 litres would adding the extra 6 litres of water effect my brew or should I just leave it. The start og was 1.067 higher than stated on can

Cheers hoptoit think I will, might give it a bit more body. I am going to bottle these brews and I was thinking how best to seal them for storage. I was going to cap them then seal with a mixture of wax and glue sticks. How does this sound
