So, back to normal for a bit I hope, just started another brew with "Youngs Definitive Bitter" (strange name) from Wilco's at £4.99.
tried most of their range...Geordie..Tom Caxton etc. but I keep going back to the Youngs, apart from being cheap I find it best to my taste.
Always use more than recommended 1kg sugar though, this time it's 2kg, should be about 5.5%.
Just experimenting with a bottle of tesco's cheap fruit cordial plus 2 galls water, sugar and yeast ! It's clearing now and tases quite alcoholic !! so thats the Xmas wine taken care of. LOL.
on a more serious note...anyone had experience of the old wooden barrels?, I've been offered one and toying with the idea of brewing nine gallons to fill it, but I'm not sure about the proceedure for sterilising it. No probs getting the bungs , spiles and tap. Comments would be welcome.
Mike.
