After a long break I fancy a green ipa. . .

Post by Walrus81 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 6:33 pm

I have loads of green fuggles which I would like to use for a green hopped ipa.

So my question is what kit to use as the basis?

I was thinking of coopers australian ale?

Any other suggestions?

I plan on making a hop tea to add to the brew and the possibly dry hop. I just need the base!

Thanks.

When I used kits, my go-to kit for modding, into any style really, was Cooper's Canadian Blonde, followed by their Aussie real ale (which is a blonde ale, nothing like UK real ale). Just keep in mind the Aussie real ale has a more pronounced bitterness than the Canadian blonde.

I have just ordered one of these from Hamstead Home Brew. Their own range only £9.99 and no doubt made by Muntons. Only 1.5kg I know but should be fine for a base to add whatever fermentables and hops you wish. I've not done one before but like you I was looking for a base kit for an IPA or a English style bitter so I opted for the UP A kit and will use a kilo of dme and 25g hop tea using Goldings. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
