Here we go again

This is fun and I havent even drunk anything yet
Coopers Lager(came with the brewing kit)
1kg light DME,100g corn sugar,2oz saaz hop flowers.
Added 450g DME,1oz hops(sock) in about 2 liters of cold water-bring to boil-simmer for 20 minutes
Can of coopers is being soften in boiling water-added to boiled mixture.
Put 21 liters of cold water into fermenter-added the rest of the DME,100g of corn sugar and another 1oz of hops(sock),added the boiled mixture to the fermenter-took temperature reading-90F,too warm,put lid on and place in 60F room for 2 1/2 hours-checked temp-70F,took SG reading-1050(does this seem right)stirred for a couple of minutes,splashing all around-waited for liquid to stop spinning and pitched 2 packets of saflager 23-put lid on-added airlock
Now I wait
Whats next?

How do you calculate the starting gravity if the temperature is too high?
I read that hydrometers are designed to work at 60f and when I took my reading the temperature was 70f so does that mean my reading is incorrect

Checked FG yesterday and today=1014
Decided this was good-tasted great
Bottled some for testing/tasting and kegged the rest.
Can I reuse the fermenter with the yeast in it for another lager without cleaning?
I am ready to go with the mexican lager.

I would clean out the fermenter and sanitise it and all your equipment thoroughly personally ! but wait and see what everyone else says as im only on my second :)

Your right though : it is a lot of fun and very satisfying when you peel open your first tasty beer :)

Yes but if you are using dried yeasts it's not worth the risk as they are very cheap and aren't as clean/pure as liquid yeasts. Only recently on the forum we've had someone loose a batch due to reusing dried yeast. IMO it's not worth it for the sake of a quid.

If you are using a liquid yeast and your sanitiation is excellent then it should be safe to reuse the slurry at least a couple of times, just add preboiled cooled water to the slurry to make it more fuid and pour into a couple of PET bottles. Keep an eye on the pressure in the bottles to store it (it will keep for a month at least, beyond that and you might want to consider making a starter), you may need to release it periodically. Alternatively make a large starter, split it, then make 1L starters with each of the individual samples you produce.
