Ahh that would explain the heater.
I am brewing in a utility room struggling to get below 21 at the moment.
May be time to start looking at cooling in my situation.
I have an old vending machine chiller knocking about may try and do something with that.

Yup I moved outside (completely) a couple of years ago. Much easier. I was hauling stuff backwards and forwards across the drive for a while. Not good.

Have now added a chiller coil to the fermenting lid , I am using an old vending machine chiller to which I added a switched pump and control it with an Inkbird 308.
Could add the heating aspect of the inkbird as well if I have to turn the house heating off or substantially down this winter
Will post some pics when I next have it set up.

I have added a heat pad to the BM itself (see page 4 of this thread for pics). Just stuck on under the jacket and run a lead out to the inkbird. Very pleased.

Also... a standard sleeping bag is perfect diameter for the BM. Buy a preloved one, cut it down, makes a superb brew bag.

Search. "heating pad silicone 220v 60w"

40w World be ideal but they don't make one. 12v versions are also available. Both no more than £10.

Have you run this yet? Just wondered if the coil is too big?

Thinking... Too much cooling creates a bigger cool mass that continues (cooling) after its hit the temp and this creates a heating/cooling loop.

Having reread this, it dawned on me that if set up an open buffer tank (bucket of saline) , I have the bits to do this.

Temped to get another lid to try this.
Or better make the coil removable somehow perhaps a tri-clamp?

Is the 15mm elbow for filling or CIP?

Hi Mash

The elbow is the blow off originally it had a Speidel airlock but that was not sufficient.

The coil is in push fit fittings so completely removable may have to reduce the coil size if a cool/heat loop appears.
Already running through a reservoir so I am hoping for it not to be an issue.
I could also stick the Inkbird Temp probe into the reservoir and that would maybe cure that issue.

Blow off. Blimey heck, never had that much krausen 😱😱
TBH I have not yet ported for an airlock.

Ok. My thinking was perhaps a 2 inch tri-clamp that then becomes a universal port for CIP / cooling / nothing (blank) /airlock??

Perhaps overthinking it.

I was trying to keep things simple will only get used in the summer months unless I have to add a heater pad when the heating is switched off this winter!!!

Yeah. I try you might have point. I am brewing in a couple of weeks so the need had passed for this year.
Used to think it was just a few days in August, but this year has proved the exception. I used to double brew in June and then catchup in September but.....
