BM Hacks

Post by barneey » Wed Apr 30, 2014 1:43 pm

Just wondered what homemade or bought hacks any of you MB users have come up with?

So far I have thought about & bought a hop filter, which will more than likely need an additional sock or mesh for use.

The original tap IMO is a bit naff and needs a replacement item, any ideas please?

Filter seals, the ones I have work well but has anyone played around with other items?

Cheers

hi barneey
from what I have read you can replace the tap with a standard 1/2" threaded one buy using a 3/8" to 1/2" adaptor like this

https://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/det ... p?PID=4897
and a 1/2 nipple

This is the part your after, 14379 3/4" x 1/2" stainless steel 150 lb screwed hexagon reducing bush £1.63

Then you can simply screw in a 2 or 3 piece stainless ball valve, work so much better than the original

Rob

Edit, that is from BES

I've been happy with the original. I only use it once on a brew day  , I splash the wort into the FV and place a block of wood under the 20L BM so I dont have to manually tilt it in order to get almost all the wort. If it takes 5 minutes longer I don't mind as I get some extra time to clean, prepare the yeast, etc.

Cheers Rob,

I was thinking of the Hexagon Reducing Nipples, 3/4 to 1/2" 14425 (male to male) + a 3 part valve 10397 1/2" (F/F)
Or maybe a 3/4 nip 14463 with a 3 part valve 10398 3/4" (F/F)

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Hang on, I may have got the wrong part. I am not with the BM at the mo but am I right in remembering it is a 3/4 male thread that is left when you take the original tap off? I wanted to stay with a 1/2" valve as that's what my other fitting are

Forgot to update this thread

The 20 lt BM I have does indeed have a female socket where the tap is. The size is 3/4 bsp.

As I wanted to use a 1/2" tap I bought BES part 14425 3/4 to 1/2 Nipple http://www.bes.co.uk/products/165a.asp, a 14558 hose tail (same page as prev. link) finally a 2 piece ballvlave 16835 http://www.bes.co.uk/products/100.asp
