BM Screens a favour please

Post by aamcle » Mon Jun 09, 2014 11:56 am

Hi.

Would a owner please do me a favour, work out the mesh size of a genuine BM screen.

it's easy just lay a ruler on it and count the number of holes per inch and that's the mesh size.

I would like to know for my eventual build.

Many Thanks aamcle.

16, I think, I counted twice with my beady eyes, could be 15 or 17...

perhaps someone with better eyesight can verify.

I'll post in this thread as it is about stainless steel meshes.

I found a supplier of all kinds of SS mesh products as I needed some for my chimney to keep out birds, potential mice, etc. Then I noticed some rolls with finer mesh size and bought a meter. My plan is to make a SS dry-hop bag.

But perhaps this could be used for BM filter too.

Some details: material is "AISI 304". Sizes are

Diameter of wire in mm number of wires per inch
0,08 200x200
0,10 100x100
0,23 14x14
0,50 14x14

So which one is closer to BM one? The one I bought for dry-hopping was very floppy like cloth so probably either one of the 2 fine ones. Cheers.

While we are talking about BM filters I emailed Ralf at Speidel yesterday outlining what think is a revolutionary hop filter for the BM and here is his reply.
Maybe we can offer it as accessory. In Basic we want to have as less parts as possible to keep it compact and easy. We will think about your idea.

It will be interesting to see if they take it up.
