I can't advise yet as my BM20 is still on order but if you do decide to buy I can recommend www.HomeBrewShop.be . Based in Belgium you will get a great price and delivery is less than a tenner. A couple of us on here have bought from there and saved £200. TransferWise is a great way to pay too avoiding most of the currency exchange fees.

Thanks for the info. How much did you pay in total and how does this transferwise work?

thanks

From memory for a 1050 ish brew it was approx. 23l (note from memory), the malt tube can get rather full. (I'm sure someone will correct me)

Depending on your financial situation though a 50BM can be bought with the smaller 25l tube so you would get more versatility from the purchase.

Thanks guys just checked the website out and will probaly order with them when i purchase unless i find a better deal.

i would love the 50l Barneey but dont think my other half will be impressed lol.got a few projects going on soon like new kitchen and other bits and pieces.i have around 700 put to one side so am almost there :D

i have various brew books and all the recipes are aimed at 23ltr so thats always been my aim and i have never brewed over that.does any1 have this set in equipment in beer smith? And i could lower my batches

Thanks

Plus doesn't the 50 litre need a 16 amp commando socket ( the one that look like your off camping ? )

The new 50 litre one certainly doesn't appear to need a commando socket because it comes with a standard European schuko plug.

The BM extras are incredibly extortionate. I bought the short malt pipe because I usually brew with my brother and would split 50 litres but now have the option for a half batch if I'm brewing on my own. I also bought the stainless hood because I want to get a good boil. I'm going to make my own jacket.

The hop filter situation is a big oversight. Speidel need something better than the hop screen they're selling. Therefore it needs a DIY solution or an aftermarket hop spider.

Hi have a 50l and use a 16A to 13A adapter. The BM is just within the 13A limit but make sure all the plug connections are really good as I've had one get s bit hot.

The max for a 20L BM is 6kg grain, efficiency wise you can get 80-85% quite easily.

HLA91, I bought a 20 BM a year ago and it's been a real learning curve. Reckon I get 75% efficiency. Got any "top tips" for increasing that?

I sparge with 1L per kilo of grain, also I use 5 mash steps, 40, 52, 68 (for full bodied or 63 for normal bodied), 73, 76 I let Beersmith use 75% but I always seem to be over that.

Cool! I perhaps wasn't sparging with enough water. The multi tiered mash I shall also try at some point. I already do a 3 stage (40, 68, 78)

Oh and do you go with the recommended 23L for the mash or as some people do, more?

I go for 23L so around 2cm down from the top marking on the rod.
Thinking about it, 85% is a bit high maybe my maths is slightly out but 80% is definitely achievable. I have been tempted to go for overnight mashes but I haven't got the nerve to leave it on its own, I'd be sleeping next to it, so I just do nice long mashes and between SWMBO and myself its checked on every 10-15 min in case of any fountains, touch wood, only 1 small one so far.
