Re: Sparging
What is it your doing that you think is wrong?
I just fill my bottling bucket with 80c water and keep it in my brew fridge till I need it (it normally drops to 70 oddish). I then, depending on how much sparge water I have, jug it or hold the bucket and crack the tap to steadily add the water into the basket keeping maybe 1/2" of water above the top mesh.

Re: Sparging
Was just using a jug and pouring in slowly, wasn't sure if I needed to pour slowly or make sure there was liquid above the top mesh, what has been your efficiency? , my last 2 brews have been low efficiency but they were bigger grain bills, chocolate stout and vanilla porter,

Re: Sparging
I do the same as u danny. I heat my sparge water on the hob in a 19 ltr pot and jug it out from there.
my last brew i was over by 7 points on og and had 23.5ltr so was an extra half ltr. Never worked eff out but always over shoot the og so am happy with that
cheers

Re: Sparging
My efficiency for this one was 87% measured, are you mashing out? I mash for 90mins, 80mins at the 64-69 range (depends on the recipe) then raise to 74c for the last 10 mins. The sparge water temp is close to 74c as well.
Re: Sparging
Usually mash for 60 mins , mash out for 10 mins @ 75c, sparge at 74c, maybe start mashing for 90 mins then ?
Re: Sparging
Hi All
After putting a Kolsch on today , I got 86.5 % mash efficiency and 79.5 total efficiency, So back to being happy

Re: Sparging
Yes mate, I also think larger grain bills need a larger sparge , Kolsch bubbling away nicely, dennis kings galaxy delight next
