50l Braumeister

Post by kinnockthecat » Fri Oct 09, 2015 12:53 pm

Picked up an unused BM a week or so ago, and want to do a trial brew this weekend using the 20l malt pipe. I have my recipes in Beersmith and was wondering if anyone has any brew kit settings for this in Beersmith?

I may be assisting kinnock with the inaugural brew :)

Some additional points:

We're looking to do a no-sparge brew so need to work out how much liqour to put in the BM initially, how much we'd need to draw off when mashing in (and then add back when the malt pipe filters are in place), approx efficiency to use etc.

As kinnock mentioned, we're using the short malt pipe (20L I believe or is the short malt pipe 25L ?).

Have a read of that.

I've been struggling a bit to hit my numbers with the BM.....but I'm getting a lot closer now.
The main things to bear in mind.......mash profile, if you are using a BIAB profile I would suggest you change the grain absorbtion to 0.9l/kg (default is 0.5something), boil off.....this is a bit 'suck it and see', but I'm using a total boil off of 5 litres for a 90 minute boil, losses to trub (i Include my hops loss here) and usually use 1.5-2 litres depending on the hop load.

Take measurements & write everything down.
Full volume mash is definitely the way to go........I fill my BM with all water needed, treat (acid/salts).....draw off down to the 25 litre mark, mash in and then add back the rest of the liquor once I've put the top filter in place.

HTH and have a good brew :D

There's a braumeister profile in beersmith which is at least a good starting point. Just need to download it as an add on.

Here is a table of all the brews i've done with the 50L BM using the 25L malt pipe. I've not tried a full volume mash as i always mash in with 27.5 to 30L and use the remaining water to sparge so may not be that useful but adding the mash and sparge volumes would probably work out:

Code: Select all
