Braumeister mash problem

Post by Darren365 » Mon May 02, 2016 6:15 pm

Used my Braumeister today 3rd brew and when I mash it's started to pump wort and grains out of one spot.it bubbles up in one area like a water fountain? First two brews were ok but now I'm confused. I looked on YouTube and a guy had the same issue and he just twisted the malt pipe a bit? Anybody else experienced this issue that can help?

I've had it a few times, usually with grain bills on the small side (less than 4kg). You can pause the mash and give a stir, that may help. Also it seems the crush of the grain can make a difference, but I get mine from Crisps in 25kg sacks so just go with how it comes.

If I'm brewing beer under 4% I now pad out the mash with oat husks. (Available from the Malt Miller).

Just make sure that you stir the grains thoroughly when you dough in. Also an initial 10 minute rest at 40 degrees helps a lot. I've always done these two things and never had a wort fountain.
