Adding body,flavour?

Post by Wherryman13 » Sat May 10, 2014 1:46 pm

Hi
Have had a red table wine kit carafe 21. on the go for 3 weeks now and following instructions etc it's now approaching bottling stage, however it's lacking red colour and also does not have much "body" in the taste, can I add something like red grape juice concentrate at this late stage to "boost" the finished product? Normally make beer. But having a dabble at wine
Appreciate any feedback/tips thanks

I'm wondering the same. I have some fairly bodiless (maybe a word) wine and I was thinking I might add some red grape concentrate from Wilkos.

I added a whole bottle of concentrate to my 'wine' and now I think it tastes like port. I expect it will be pretty tasty in a few months time.

You can use raisins, grape concentrate, wheat or even bananas (boiled for 15 minutes and strained) to add body to wine.

I'm afraid you get what you pay for with red wine kits. The more you pay the better the wine. For this one I would chalk it up to experience. I would recommend you go for a Beverdale or Wine Expert kits. Beverdale work out at around £1.50 a bottle and you get a decent red. You pay a bit more for Wine Expert, but again you get a better wine.
