Berry identification

Post by grotzilla » Sat Jul 26, 2014 3:06 pm

Hey guys,

Went on a walk today to scope what fruit I can find for future wine making and came across these which I've never seen before.

Anyone familiar with these?

I've never tried it but there seems to be a good number of recipes for it.

I would try 3lb of berries for a gallon.

If you try it, let us know what it's like :)

I made a redcurrant wine a couple of years ago and it was real nice. Was a sweet one and worked well as a desert wine. I think I just used a cj berry recipe from his first steps in winemaking book

Those leaves do look like redcurrant leaves but not convinced by the berries.

Redcurrants that I know grow on a single stem rather than several stems from a single point. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redcurrant

[EDIT] Look like Viburnum to me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viburnum). Do they have a single seed in them?

yup - not redcurrants.
I'd go with crimsongarlic on the viburnum

looks a bit too much like a dogwood.

If you aren't sure what they are - don't risk it!!!

Some gorgeous looking fruits can make you pretty ill.

Ask someone who KNOWS!!!
