Potassium sorbate

Post by bquiggerz » Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:52 am

Hello everyone,

A couple days ago I started a a wine with juice but when I went to check the packaging yesterday it contains potassium sorbate. So I made a started and added that to the must.

1. Do you all think this will work?

2. Would boiling get rid of the sorbate next time?

3. Should I just dump it?

Thanks,

Ben.

A strong enough starter can overcome sorbate. Not sure how easy it to boil off.

Thanks Oldbloke, I hope it was strong enough, I'll just have to wait and see. Worst is I'll have to throw this and try again. That comes with the home brewing territory.

So the started worked but it was fermenting so slow, so I added the dregs from a wine that I racked today and sure enough away it goes! It was a hail Mary but it paid off. :)
