White wine concentrate
White wine concentrate
I have a recipie for elderflower wine that uses Wilkos white wine concentrate but for the last 2 or 3 months its been out of stock with no sign of coming back and since the hop n grape has gone from Darlington I'm at a loss for how to proceed, I know I can use raisins but it won't be the same is there another thing I can do.
My wife wanted me to get a hobby now I make beer. She says I'm always in my shed I KEEP TELLING HER IT WAS HER IDEA.

Re: White wine concentrate
I think it depends on if you're using anything other than elderflower as a flavour, since there's not much to hide behind for the lack of vinosity.
I've done with sultanas/raisins vs grape concentrate myself a few times over the years depending on what's available, the amount of other flavours in the wine and my budget at the time of making. You probably need around a pound of raisins/sultanas to replace a pint of grape concentrate. I would personally chop/mash them up a bit before adding. You'll also end up with a lot more stuff in your fermenter so I'd recommend using a muslin bag to keep hold of everything and they will naturally absorb of a lot of liquid vs concentrate so you may end up with less finished product.
Hope this helps.

Re: White wine concentrate
Or try making it fizzy, it'll lift the elderflower flavour and potentially hide the lack of grape flavour.
Re: White wine concentrate
The list of ingredients are
1pt flower heads
2 lemon zest and juice
1lb Raisins
3lbs sugar
8 pts boiling water
And tannin
Although some of those may be approx depending on my haul of flowers (I'm currently hand stripping the flowers now so il measure as I strip and ajust accordingly.
