Potato Wine

Post by mshergold » Sat Apr 04, 2015 10:59 am

I've just taken an allotment and there are quite a few potatoes that have been over-wintered still in the ground, so have decided to make potato wine. Does anyone have or can point me in the direction of a decent recipe?

There's one in The Alaskan Bootlegger's Bible, I'll dig it out later. Maybe also one of my old country wine books.

2lb potatoes, 2.5lb sugar, 1lb raisins, 4 oranges/lemons, 1tsp tea, yeast, 1 (US) gallon water
Says old wrinkly spuds best but remove sprouts, eyes, any green.
Peel, pare, grate the spuds.Bring to boil in the water then pour just the water over the sugar+raisins.
When cool add juice of fruits and the other stuff.
Ferment as usual.
