I have left many airlocks soaking for days in a VWP solution with no problems.

I have found though that airlocks that have dulled or discoloured never come back clear, even after soaking. As long as they are clean and sanitised, I don't worry about using them.

They are Ridgid PVC and it's a chemical reaction when they go opaque, as long as they are clean and sanitised that should be your target

Discoloured airlocks are not very pleasing to the eye , but as you say so long as there sterilised , and besides they still make that wonderful glug glug sound when the wine is fermenting :D
