Brewing Red Wine
Is it possible to make a Red at least as good as Toro Loco or a decent Merlo for for less than the cost of buying a bottle? As far as I know I can't do it WOW style.
So what are my options?
Thanks. Aamcle

Re: Brewing Red Wine
Ive made some cracking white and rose wines using decent kits such as beaverdale.
Red not so much. I did 2 or 3 and gave up. They were OK but not commercial quality like the whites.

ive made good white and red from kits. reds you need to leave a good 6 months before there good to drink but whites are good nearly straight away
a decent kit will set you back 1.50-2 a bottle

Kenridge do a cracking Cabernet Sauvignon . Did blind taste test against papa Neuf and it won. It is the wine of choice among our friends . ( the biggest compliment I received was ‘ I’d happily pay eight quid for a bottle of that !’)

I’ll give one of those ago.
What’s the longest you’ve stored them for? I have a large temp controlled catering fridge so thinking of doing 30 bottle kit and ageing them for a year or 2??

TBH they are fine after a month but when I’ve opened older ones they are better . I don’t think I’ve had one more than 12 months old. Not sure they need keeping cold either .. I keep em in garage ..

Ps my friend down the road is quite a wine snob and he keeps it continuously brewing . Never had a negative comment about the wine

Re: Brewing Red Wine
This is a completey ignorant question, but how long does a kit like the kenridge red take to ferment etc. before bottling?
It has been decades since I made a wine kit, so things 'must' have improved since then.

Re: Brewing Red Wine
i was very disappointed with a couple of the kenridge and beaverdale reds i did. tasting at 6-8 months gave some very flat and "kit-like" wine. from what i'd read i expected better at that stage even if they could still improve. not tried the cab sav though so might be tempted to revisit if i lunch out the elderberries again later this year.
those wines are now over a year in the keg though so might have to try soon..

dazzled, doused in gin..
