The Range MYO Red wine
Hi all
Has anyone made the Make Your Own red wine kit from the range?
I usually buy in the£30-40 bracket but am thinking of giving these a go. I'm not particularly bothered that they are a lighter bodied wine, it's more a flavour thing for me. So as long as they taste ok I'll probably get one on.
Thanks in advance for all your opinions
Cheers Tom

Certainly worth a go.
At that price it would also make a good base to tweak.

If anyone has one of these kits can they have a look at the ingredients list to see if the juice has any sugar actually in the mix?
Cheers Tom

I would really doubt it. The concentrated is from pressed juice.
What are you thinking?

Re: The Range MYO Red wine
Something along the lines of.....
A cellar 7 kit needs no extra sugar and weighs approx 7kg. So if you took the sugar component out of it would the remaining juice weigh about the same as the MYO kits?
If you need to add 3.5-4kg of sugar to the MYO kits does that suggest there's none in the juice compound?
So my query is really about the % of actual grape juice in the compound compared to the £30-40 kits......
I hope I've explained that well enough as it sounds a bit confusing when I read it back
Cheers Tom

Did the myo kit say add sugar then?
Re: The Range MYO Red wine
Here you go found it online.
You were spot on.... Does need a good lump of sugar.... 4kg

Kit seems to contain 2.7kg on juice concentrate. Which seems about right for the volume assuming 65brix.

Re: The Range MYO Red wine
The pouch of stuff weighs a shade over 2.2kg, so 65% x 2.2kg = 1.43kg of pure juice stuff. An unknown amount of elderberry and blueberry concentrate on top of that too. Thing that surprised me is the inclusion of a packet of oak chips. Don't know how the 1.43kg compares to the amount in the cellar 7's of this world but the proof will be in the tasting.soupdragon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 8:13 amIf anyone has one of these kits can they have a look at the ingredients list to see if the juice has any sugar actually in the mix?

Unfortunately I won't get around to doing this for a few months but will post comment when first tasted.
Oh, there's some grape skin extract on there too
Cheers Tom

Re: The Range MYO Red wine
Finally got this on last week.
Smelled very nice when mixed and couldn't see the bottom of the f/v through the must like I could when I did a Carafe 21 that I did a few years back. That was just flavoured water with a slightly pink tint to it. I ended up chucking it as it really didn't taste of much.
Fingers crossed the MYO kit will fare better. Will post again when racking time comes around.
Cheers Tom

Re: The Range MYO Red wine
Finally started drinking this.
It's actually quite drinkable. Is it as good as the £32-£35 kits I usually do? No but I certainly won't be pouring it down the drain like I did with the carafe 21.
This is quite fruity but I can't pin down the actual flavour. To me it seems a bit one dimensional but what do I expect with the price I paid? I don't think I'd buy another but if I received one as a gift at Xmas or the like I wouldn't pull a face.
Cheers Tom
