Toffee Apple Cider

Post by JhnMcK » Wed Mar 25, 2015 4:40 pm

Recently, I've attempted to make a toffee apple cider that I saw on a different forum. It's now fermented out but I was wondering, as there is some mashed pears flouting about in it, what would be the best way of racking it? I think I have some muslin cloth somewhere but I don't want to be racking the fruit as it'll no doubt block the siphon.

Not easy to make any form of pear cider in the UK due to the scarcity of non-pulped pear juice - like you, I tried to make some several times with the Aldi Pear Nectar but was defeated by the sedimentation from the mix every time - found it near impossible to seperate, even through fine filtering medium (it either let pulp by, or was too fine and blocked)

If you had access to a large quanitiy of perry pears and made your own juice - quite possible tho.

Start with muslin/cheesecloth wrap over the siphon and see how you get on.
