Priming question

Post by Col.B » Tue Oct 23, 2018 7:41 pm

I have a 5 gallon batch of turbo cider on the go right now and its my 1st large batch so would appreciate some advice on if my method is wrong or may create bottle bombs .
My plan was to heat 1 ltr of apple juice and desolve 1 tsp of sugar per bottle i think its around 250 grams total + juice or would it be better to reduce sugar to reflect the added juice.
Sorry if its been asked before ,but i couldnt find anything

Sounds about right if you like fizzy Cider, some people add it to water and boil it for a minute to sterilize it. I just tip the sugar in the bottle and rack over the top. If your bulk priming i'd just use water, you dont know how much the fresh apple juice will ferment out and you may get exploding bottles.

col.B,
I take about 2 pints from the FV into a saucepan, add 150gr sugar, heat gently until all sugar is dissolved,
pour into a cleaned, sanitised FV, syphon from FV 1 onto sugar mixture and then bottle / keg.
Never had a bottle bomb.

150gr Sugar in 20lts.
Chill bottles AT LEAST 4hrs before opening. Lovely Fizzy TC! :D
Don`t open one at room temp because you will have a gusher! (How would I know)! #-o

Col.B,
Use the correct glass for Fizzy TC.
Strongbow, Coors, any glass with etching on the inside base.

I jut dump ordinary sugar into the bottles. As the cider goes in it gets stirred up a bit. The yeast will find it.

Your 1l juice spread across 23l of cider is only about 0.25% to add to the ABV. Ignore it
