Post by ArmChair » Sun Jun 02, 2013 1:35 pm

Has anyone had any success dry hopping Cidre?

I'm going to do a batch of turbo cider and might dry hop it with a citrus hop

I made a 4.5 litre batch and dry hopped in secondary with 25g of cascade hops for 7 days.
I'm about to do a 23l batch - that's how good it is!
it's so good that I'm reluctant to drink my store of non-hopped turbo cider.

if you haven't already check out secue01 on youtube. He has a dry hopped cider playlist with how to and tasting videos.

Hello Hatman,
Was your dry hopped cider a flavoured cider, ie Pomegranate TC. I`m doing a 15L TC tomorrow, 12L Apple juice, 3L Pomegranate juice ( my favourite) with all the usual ingredients for a TC. My question is this, will the Cascade overpower the Pomegranate or vice versa? Or will it be a match made in heaven?

Cidre? Is the Stella Artois marketing really that successful?
I've taken to calling Stella "Wife Beatre" recently.

Me and my mates have been calling Stella "Wife Beater" for years. Prefer your spelling - its like something out of the Canterbury Tales. =D> =D>

Hello Hatman,
Just watched the Secue01 video, also watched `CraigTube` doing a taste test for `dry hopped cider`, that guy is in Hop Heaven when he tastes the Cider. Made my brew yesterday, will be dry hopping with Cascade next week. Hope it turns out as good as these on the videos!

Hi WalesAles

only apple juice and tea in my cider (and occasionally some extra sugar if I want to see my mates fall over!). I've never made a cider with anything other than apple juice so I can't give you any advice there matey.
Mouthfeel is improved with 1 tsp of splenda per 500ml (I use the Asda version), I assume that is from the maltodextrin used to bulk it up. seems to help it keep a head too which is unusual for cider.

I might try a small batch with some pomegranate juice to see what difference it makes. Just need to get through the kits I bought in the wilkos sale and a 20l batch of hopped cider which has been waiting to go on for a while.

Good luck with your brew - hopped cider is the future!

Hello Everyone,
I bottled 25 pints of my Hopped Cider Yesterday.
12Lts Apple Juice,
3 Lts Pomegranate Juice,
4 Bramley Apples (Grated)
3 mugs strong Tea,
220 Grams Demerara Sugar.
OG 1042, FG 1000 5.7% ABV.
Batch Primed into 2nd FV with 140 Grams white sugar.
Dry Hopped with 25 Grams Cascade on day 7. Left the hops in for a week.
The taste from the sample jar was very nice/different!
Can`t wait to sample these after a month!

Hello Everyone,
The cider I dry hopped with Cascade is different, nice to drink even though it is still early days. There is a little bit of hop flavour there but nothing as dramatic as those brews on youtube! I made a new brew on 20/07/13 with 20gr Pacific Gem hops boiled for 5mins in 2ltrs Apple Juice. I left the Hop bag in the FV for 2 days, squeezed juice out gently then shut the lid on FV and let it carry on. Dry hopped tonight with 25gr Pacific Gem to be left in for a week. My question is this, I know that Turbo Cider is a bit of a Beast, but would there be any benefit to the brew if I squeezed the hop bag to impart more flavour every couple of days, or once you squeeze it, is that it? Would the hops absorb more juice to be squeezed again or can they only be done once?
All advice greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone,
I could not wait any longer, I know it`s only been in the bottle for a week but it was crying out for a` Taste Test`. This Pacific Gem hopped cider is 10 times better than my Cascade TC. What the hell, it needed tasting! It`s Bloody Lovely Mun! The 2nd bottle was very nice too! 2 more bottles in fridge waiting for `Taste Test`, Oh well, these things must be done for the benefit of the brewing community!

Hey WA, you had any more success with the hopped cider? I've just ordered myself some cascade hops and i've got some challenger hops in the cupboard. Tempted to make two batches and dry hop with cascade in one and challenger in the other. You think 25 grams in each 4 litre demijohn enough or is it recommended to add a little more?

Thanks.

Hello Shaun,
I haven`t done a hopped cider for a while. Just reread my posts and I will be dry hopping one next week. I forgot all about dry hopping!
I only put 25gr in 15 lts so your amount should be tasty!
